Prescription "Take Back" Program

Although a small part of our recycling program, the Prescription Drop-Off Site located at the Glasgow Police Department, 101 Pin Oak Lane, is an important part of our efforts. Sponsored and coordinated by the Ky-Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (Ky-ASAP), the Prescription “Take Back” Program offers citizens a safe and secure way to dispose of expired or unwanted medication.

Unfortunately many people flush expired or unneeded prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and veterinary drugs down the toilet or wash them down a drain. On the surface, it seems an innocent enough practice, but anything flushed can eventually make its way into America’s waterways like streams, rivers, lakes and other large bodies of water. The Ky-ASAP Take Back Box is located at the GPD helps reduce this issue within our community.

In one year, the Take Back Box program has safely disposed of approximately 5 gallons of prescription medications (pills and liquids) keeping these contaminants out of Glasgow’s water system.
