Fire Prevention

It is the belief of the Glasgow Fire Department that PREVENTION is one of the greatest tools to have. If we are successful in educating the community in how even the smallest actions can and do prevent fires, then we have accomplished a great deal of our mission.

The following are some tips you can use at home that will help us to help you:

  • Teach your children to NEVER play with matches or lighters
  • Never burn anything inside the City limits without a burn permit
  • Don’t burn anything before 6:00 PM
  • NEVER burn tires
  • Be very careful when burning and always have a water source near you
  • Wet the area around where you will be burning prior to starting to burn
  • Be aware of the weather conditions: dryness, wind speed, wind direction, etc
  • NEVER throw gasoline onto a fire
  • Keep children away from the burning area
  • Be aware of your surroundings: homes, vehicles, businesses, etc.
  • Never leave a burning fire unattended until it is completely extinguished
